Security Issues
Our web site uses regular (non-secure) HTTP communication for most pages, including adding items to the shopping cart. This is OK because no personal information is passed to/from the Internet during this process. (Other sites, such as Amazon.com, work this way too.) However, whenever we need to ask for personal information the site switches to secure HTTPS communication.
Therefore, when you are viewing any of the following pages on the site, your browser will NOT indicate secure status:
- all information and product pages on www.yarnbarn.com
- the "My Shopping Cart" page on www.cart32hosting.com
Your browser SHOULD indicate secure status when you are:
- in the checkout process (starting with the "Begin Checkout" page)
- in the "My Account" area (starting with the "User Login" page)
You can tell whether our site is using secure HTTPS communication in two ways:
- the URL in the address bar of your browser will start with https://www.cart32hosting.com/
- the "locked" icon will appear in your browser status bar
If your browser does not indicate secure status during checkout or when in the "My Account" area of the site, please . It would help us track down the problem if you could tell us:
- what page you were looking at
- why you think the page is not secure (e.g. "locked" icon not displayed, URL does not start https://, message displayed by browser, etc.)
- the exact text of any message displayed by the browser
- what browser you use (e.g. Internet Explorer 6, Netscape Navigator 7.1, etc.)
- what operating system you use (e.g. Windows XP, Windows 98, Mac OS, etc.)
Some Messages Internet Explorer Users May See
(Depending on Browser Settings)
1. "When you send information to the Internet, it might be possible for others to see that information. Do you want to continue?"
This message may appear when you click on the "Add to Cart" button on a product page, or fill out another form on the regular site pages. It will only appear if:
- your browser settings have "Submit nonencrypted form data" set to "Prompt" (in Internet Options, Security tab, select "Custom Level" to view/change setting)
- you have not disabled the message (which you can do any time it is displayed)
None of the pages on our site which might generate this message should be asking for any personal information, including your user name or password, thus it should be OK to continue. If you do encounter this message on a page that is asking for personal information, please let us know!
2. "Security Alert: You are about to view pages over a secure connection. Any information you exchange with this site cannot be viewed by anyone else on the web"
Although the title of this message box is the somewhat alarming "Security Alert", this is in fact a GOOD message telling you we are switching to the secure portion of the site.
3. "Security Alert: You are about to leave a secure Internet connection. It will be possible for others to view information you send. Do you want to continue?"
www.yarnbarn.com. It will only appear if:This message may appear if you are in the process of checking out, or in the "My Account" area, and click on a link that takes you back to the product pages, store policy pages, etc. on
- your browser settings have "Warn if changing between secure and not secure mode" checked (in Internet Options, Advanced tab)
- you have not disabled the message (which you can do any time it is displayed)
If you see this message when you don't think you should, please let us know!
